Amidst the growing emphasis on food security and sustainability, urban farming is gaining traction in the UAE.
Greeneration, an innovative supplier, has recently launched in Dubai, providing unique crops and ingredients that enhance local dishes while reducing the need for imports.
Based in Dubai Industrial City, Greeneration is spearheaded by founder and managing partner Roman Ulyanov. The company leverages its extensive experience serving European restaurants.
“Our goal is to offer a diverse range of high-quality products, including microgreens, specialty greens, baby leaves, and edible flowers, enabling chefs and bartenders to utilize the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients,” states Ulyanov.
He notes that Greeneration will cultivate 70 rare crops using hydroponics, allowing for year-round growth without pesticides.
The advanced facility incorporates AI to optimize growing conditions and maximize production.
Greeneration aims to supply up to 1,200 restaurants with premium products, such as edible flowers and microgreens, which are typically imported or unavailable in the UAE.
Bespoke Orders for Chefs In addition to their regular offerings, Greeneration will cater to chefs seeking specific ingredients.
“As part of our Food Hub initiative, we collaborate closely with our customers, particularly chefs,” Ulyanov explains. “We listen to their preferences and accommodate requests that fit our commitment to a dynamic and adaptable product range.
“Dubai’s vibrant culinary landscape, diverse tastes, and demand for sustainable, locally-grown produce make it the ideal location for our vision. Greeneration aspires to be the premier source of natural, nutritious ingredients in the GCC.”
Educational Initiatives for Sustainability Beyond rare greens, Greeneration is also exploring non-alcoholic beverages.
Additionally, the Greeneration Academy offers an online platform with over 100 hours of sustainability content for schools and universities.
“Through the Greeneration Academy, we aim to nurture the next generation of sustainability advocates,” Ulyanov says.
“Our curriculum provides hands-on experience with hydroponic systems, offering schools a flexible selection of lessons.”
