Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort Unveils On-Site Hydroponic Farm
Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort has recently introduced a cutting-edge hydroponic farm, showcasing a significant milestone in the resort’s sustainability efforts. This innovative facility marks an important development in their ongoing commitment to sustainable practices, complementing successful waste diversion and water conservation initiatives.
Features of the Hydroponic Farm Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA): The farm follows CEA principles to create optimal conditions for plant growth, minimizing contamination risks and enhancing nutrient absorption.
Hybrid Nutrient Delivery System: The farm uses a Hybrid System that combines the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) and Deep Water Culture (DWC) with an Integrated Gravity-Driven Water Circulation system, ensuring plants receive adequate hydration and nutrients.
LED Lighting: Specialized LED lights mimic natural sunlight, maintaining a day-night cycle that supports healthy plant growth.
Size and Production Capacity: Spanning 40.5 square meters, the hydroponic farm operates six days a week, producing various leafy greens, including baby leaves, lettuce, herbs, and microgreens, with a daily yield of approximately 11 kilograms of fresh produce.
Organic Practices: The crops are grown without pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, using NON-GMO seeds and optimized organic nutrients through controlled dosing.
Sustainability Goals James Hewitson, the cluster general manager for Anantara The Palm Dubai and Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort, highlighted that the hydroponic farm represents a deeper commitment to sustainability. It offers guests fresh, high-quality produce while reducing the resort’s environmental impact. This initiative is part of a larger strategy, which has already achieved a 62% waste diversion from landfills and significant water conservation.
